Powering the South-to-North Water Diversion: The ZLB Axial Flow Pump

The South-to-North Water Diversion Project

The South-to-North Water Diversion Project is a major strategic cross-basin water transfer project initiated by China to address the uneven spatial and temporal distribution of water resources and alleviate severe water shortages in northern regions. The overall plan consists of three routes — Eastern, Central, and Western — spanning four major river basins: the Yangtze, Huaihe, Yellow, and Haihe. It is one of the largest in scale and longest in distance among water diversion projects worldwide. This project not only affects the drinking water safety of hundreds of millions of people but also provides irreplaceable support for agricultural irrigation, industrial development, ecological restoration, and balanced regional economies along the route. It stands as a monumental water conservancy achievement in the governance of the nation in the new era.

Bangpu Participated in the Hongze Lake Water Level Raising Project, Providing Axial Flow Pump Equipment

Within such a grand engineering framework, long-distance, large-volume water transmission inevitably relies on core power equipment — pumps. In 2013, Bangpu, with its solid technical strength, participated in the construction of multiple pump stations for the "Hongze Lake Raised Storage Level Impact Treatment Project" under the Eastern Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, providing core water transmission equipment for the project. One of the larger stations — at this single station alone — was equipped with the ZLB series vertical axial flow pumps, with a pipe diameter reaching 1.4 meters. When five pumps operate simultaneously, they can deliver 99,000 tons of water per hour, equivalent to filling an Olympic-sized swimming pool in just one minute — fully demonstrating Bangpu's manufacturing capability in high-capacity water transmission equipment.

Advantages, Features, and Application Scenarios of the ZLB Axial Flow Pump

The core advantage of the ZLB series vertical axial flow pump lies in its ability to achieve high-efficiency, ultra-large-flow transmission at low lift with relatively low power consumption, making it particularly suitable for working conditions where the lift requirement is modest but the required water volume is enormous. It can easily handle a water delivery capacity of over 10,000 tons per hour, with economical equipment costs and low operation and maintenance expenses, yielding outstanding long-term benefits. For this reason, the ZLB not only shines in major national water conservancy projects like the South-to-North Water Diversion but is also widely used in agricultural irrigation, industrial circulating water delivery, urban flood control and drainage, and municipal water supply and drainage systems — it is a reliable choice for high-flow, low-lift transmission scenarios.

Eighteen Years of Bangpu's Heritage

Over the eighteen years since its founding, Bangpu has remained focused on the R&D and manufacturing of fluid transmission equipment, providing efficient and reliable pump station solutions and equipment for key projects across water conservancy, municipal, industrial, agricultural, and many other fields, accumulating extensive practical experience. If you have any project requirements, selection questions, or technical concerns, feel free to leave a message for consultation.
